There have been many risks and dangers that have fallen upon the Kayapo over time.
2. Building a School The building of a school and learning other languages including Portages is an example of effectively using globalization. In addition to schools, they have adopted many other technologies including motorized boats, guns, generators, and TVs to re-watch their special ceremonies. 3. The building of Dams on essential rivers In 1989, the Kayapo protested the construction of the Kararao Dam project on the Xingu River. This project had the original plan of building six dams, which would flood the Kayapo land and was dropped after large demonstrations by the Kayapo and conservation groups. 4. Struggle for autonomy The chief of the Kayapo tribe learned Portuguese and was able to enlist for help in the conservation organizations so their tribe could own the land. That way the Kayapo tribe were able to have a say in the deforestation around and on their land. In 1988 the Kayapo helped indigenous people get rights written into the new Brazilian Constitution. |
