Using Globalization
The Kayapo are different from the average indigenous group because of their ability to use globalization rather than it taking them over. The Kayapo chief was able to use globalization to his advantage by learning Portuguese and getting charity groups involved with his cause. They use things such as motor boats, flip flops, generators, TVs, and old phones as a way to enhance their culture rather than have them stray from it and accept "white American culture" instead. Counted they have had problems and their youth is pulled by pop culture and technology as it is in other indigenous groups, but their elders are accentuating the importance of their own culture by saying "they have their culture and we have ours."
